Acceptance Resources

The information provided herein should be considered as guidelines, and are intended to be used in conjunction with the appropriate documents. Acceptance of CCPR materials and mat are primarily based on, but not always limited to, the items listed below. For ARRA resources and detailed information on Acceptance Criteria, please refer to the The Basic Asphalt Recycling Manual or ARRA Guidelines CR102 and  CR301. Suggested mitigation for non-compliance are indicated in the Troubleshooting Section, the Basic Asphalt Recycling Manual and ARRA CR102 and ARRA CR301.

Acceptance Guidelines

CCPR MIX PROPERTIES

  • RAP Gradation: RAP should be sampled and tested for maximum particle size with either air dried or wet field samples prior to or after the addition of the recycling agent.
  • CCPR Recycling Agent Content: Recycling agent content (emulsified or foamed asphalt) should be checked by evaluating the mass of recycled material against the volume of recycling agent used for a single tanker.
  • CCPR Recycling Additive Content: If required by the mix design requirements, recycling additives (e.g. corrective aggregate, RAP, cement or lime) should be checked by evaluating the mass of additive applied against the area of application used for a single tanker or load.

COMPACTION OF CCPR MAT

Compaction should be continuously monitored using nuclear density testing, or an owner agency approved method, throughout the time compaction is being completed to verify the compaction requirement is met.

SURFACE TOLERANCE

The finished surface and grade of the recycled material should be checked regularly during placement using a 10 ft (3 m) straight-edge. The straight edge may be placed in any direction on the surface, except across the crown.

SURFACE CONDITION PRIOR TO FINAL SURFACING

After the CCPR mat has been opened to traffic, surface appearance should be visually assessed for any raveling, segregation and rutting ensuring a uniform smooth texture
