Base Stabilization History

In many areas quality aggregates are not readily available. Base stabilization is an economical and sustainable method to increase the load bearing capacity of aggregates and/or reduce the total pavement thickness. Base stabilization is not new as pugmill mixers have been available for decades. The development of rotary mixers in the 1950’s increased productivity and modern methods of base stabilization were developed in the 1970's. Today, as increased global demand for energy rises and and local demand for aggregates remains high, base stabilization is an economical, efficient and cost effective method of pavement construction and reconstruction.
