Former ISSA President Phillip Paul "Phil" Tarsovich, 61, of Richmond, Va., passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, after suffering with ALS. To support himself while attending Virginia Commonwealth University, he started working on a road crew for Slurry Pavers, Inc (SPI). During his 40-year tenure, Phil became President and acquired partial ownership of SPI and its subsidiaries. In addition to having served as president of ISSA from 1996-97, Phil was involved with many professional organizations throughout the years, including multiple committees for the Virginia Asphalt Association, board member and president the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance Association (VTCA), and board member of the Foundation for Pavement Preservation.

The VTCA community and staff established a Phillip P. Tarsovich donation trust fund for scholarships for VCU Business School students in Phil's honor. Phil enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends as well as spending time with his family at their beach house. His hobbies included boating, fishing, golfing and any sport his kids were playing, especially traveling to watch his son play baseball.

He is survived by his wife Jane; son Jordan and daughters, Emily Tarsovich and Amy (Lee) Carroll, and grandsons Brayden and Beckett. Donations may be made to Bon Secours Community Hospice House or Harpers Hope Fund for ALS at VCU.

On June 15, 2019, former ARRA President Peter Ashley Barber passed away at the age of 72. Barber worked for Barber-Greene, the company that was founded by his grandfather. Throughout the years, he worked in the asphalt industry for various companies and was president of the Asphalt Recycling & Reclaiming Association from 1982-83.

Peter greatly enjoyed cooking, playing cards and being with family and friends. He was also known for his storytelling which he loved to do around the firepit at the family cabin in Manitowish Waters, WI, his favorite vacation spot.

He is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Carrie (Aaron) McMillan and granddaughters Madison and Sophia. Donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, West Aurora Sports Boosters or Manitowish Waters, WI Fire Dept.

James “Jimmy” Richardson was involved in a fatal car accident on Sunday, May 19, 2019 in Florida, while participating in the Alabama Asphalt Convention.  Jimmy was a regional sales manager at ARRA member Roadtec Inc.

Jimmy was a shining example on how to build a career with strong work ethics, while making his family his highest priority. His greatest treasures were his wife, children and family. He was an amazing husband, father, son and brother.

He is survived by wife Jamie Richardson, and daughters Bailey and Brooklyn. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
