Cold in-Place Recycling (CIR) to Extend Road Life

Equipment can range in size from a single unit to a multi-unit train.

SINGLE UNIT TRAIN:

• Cutting head removes pavement to desired depth and cross-slope
• Cutting head sizes the RAP
• Recycling agent and additives are blended with the RAP in cutting head chamber
• Recycling agent is added volumetrically based on width and depth of cut and forward speed of unit

TWO UNIT TRAINS:

• Consist of a large full lane width cold planer and a mix paver
• RAP removal and sizing is performed by the cold planer
• Recycling agents and additives are blended in the pugmill of the mix paver
• Recycling agent is added based on the weight of the RAP being processed

MULTI UNIT TRAINS: 

• Consist of a large full lane width cold planer
• A separate crushing unit and screening deck that controls the maximum size of RAP
• A separate pugmill that mixes all materials (may be mounted on the same unit as the crusher & screening deck)
• Recycling agent is added based on the weight of the RAP being processed
